David Ward, FIA Foundation; Greig Craft, AIP Foundation; Jamal Saghir, World Bank; and Michelle Yeoh launch the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative

Launched in 2009 by the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation, the FIA Foundation and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative is comprised of a network of international road safety stakeholders with the common goal of halting the rising number of deaths and injuries caused by road traffic crashes.

Working through a series of public-private partnerships, GHVI will be officiated by the Global Steering Committee, which includes the founding partners, the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). The Leadership Council of GHVI, an advisory group to the Global Steering Committee, includes Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and Commerce and Chairman of Make Roads Safe North America, Lord George Robertson, British Member of Parliament and former NATO Secretary General & Commission for Road Safety Chairman, and Michelle Yeoh, actress and road safety ambassador, among many others.

The Global Steering Committee will oversee Country-Level Helmet Vaccine Coalitions (HVCs), like the one already established in Vietnam. These Country-Level HVCs will be made up of non-government, government and corporate partners, headed by a Lead NGO for program implementation.
